Long-Distance and Seasonal Moves Off the East End
When a Southampton household is heading off Long Island for good — or just following the season south — we move it the same careful way we move it across town, only on real road miles and one written price. We hold our own US DOT and MC authority, so the truck that loads your estate in Water Mill is the truck that unloads it in Palm Beach. Nothing gets handed to a stranger at a warehouse dock, and nothing gets pooled with three other families’ shipments. One crew, one truck, one point of contact from the Hamptons to wherever you are landing.
The Routes We Run Most
Much of our long-distance work follows the same map our clients live by. The Hamptons to New York City is a short, traffic-aware run of about 95 miles down Sunrise Highway and the LIE. North to Boston on I-95 is roughly a half-day haul. The big one is the seasonal exodus south — the East End to Palm Beach and the Florida coast, a two-to-three-day run down I-95 that picks up every fall and winter. We also run regularly to Greenwich and the Connecticut shore, down to Washington, and clear across the country to Los Angeles when a family relocates for good.
How We Quote and Protect a Long Move
We price long-distance moves on the actual distance and the real inventory, not a vague per-pound guess that balloons on delivery day. After the walkthrough you get a flat written figure that holds. Federal rules give every move released-value coverage at sixty cents a pound at no charge; for the art, antiques, and estate furnishings that fill these houses, we strongly recommend full-value protection, which typically runs one to three percent of the declared value and covers replacement, not pennies on the dollar. Our cargo liability carries up to one million dollars, and you have roughly nine months to file a claim if anything ever needs it — though with our own crew loading and crating, it rarely does.
Seasonal Moves Done on Time
The hardest part of a seasonal long-distance move is not the highway — it is the calendar. Everyone closes their second home in the same two weeks, and the climate-controlled storage fills fast. We coordinate the load-out around the off-season exodus, crate the fragile pieces here in Southampton, and deliver on a date you can actually plan around. If the new place is not ready, we will store the shipment climate-controlled until it is.
