Moving in Westhampton and Westhampton Beach
Westhampton is the gateway to the Hamptons coming east on Sunrise Highway, and it splits into two very different moves. North of the highway you have the village of Westhampton Beach with its walkable Main Street, the year-round neighborhoods, and the country-club communities. South of it, across the bridges, is Dune Road — a narrow barrier-island strip where oceanfront and bayfront houses sit on pilings and a nor’easter can put salt spray and sand across the only road in.
The Dune Road moves are the ones that demand experience. The road is single-lane in stretches, the houses are elevated on stilts with long exterior staircases, and the bridges have weight and width limits that rule out a big trailer. We bring shorter trucks, carry up and down the stair runs carefully, and watch the tide and weather so a load is never caught on the barrier island in a blow. Sand and salt air are hard on furniture, so we wrap accordingly.
Village and Country-Club Homes
In the village and the gated golf communities off Montauk Highway, the picture changes to manicured lanes, association rules, and Certificate of Insurance requirements before the gate lifts. Our office clears the COI in advance so the crew is not stuck at a guardhouse. Many of these are second homes, packed up and closed after the season.
Crating and Off-Season Storage
Whether it is a beach house on pilings or a year-round colonial inland, we crate the fragile pieces — art, mirrors, glass, the occasional piano — and inventory the load in writing. For owners closing a Dune Road or village second home for winter, we move everything into climate-controlled storage, safe from the salt air, and redeliver in spring.
