What an Apartment, Share-House, or Condo Move Costs on the East End

Not every East End move is a waterfront estate. A large share of what we do is the smaller, faster work the season runs on: village apartments in Sag Harbor and Southampton, condos in Westhampton, and the seasonal share houses that turn over in a hurry between Memorial Day and Labor Day. These moves are priced on a simpler basis than an estate — usually an hourly crew rate — but the East End specifics still matter: a third-floor village walk-up, a building that wants a COI, or a share-house turnover squeezed into a single changeover weekend all change the number.

How Apartment and Share Moves Are Priced

For most apartments, condos, and share houses we bill an hourly crew rate with a stated minimum, because the job is straightforward and you should only pay for the time it takes. We give you a realistic time estimate up front based on the size, the floor, the access, and how packed you are, and we hold to it. For a fully packed condo or a tight seasonal turnover, we will quote a flat written figure instead so there is no meter pressure on a deadline. Either way the rate is in writing before move day.

Move size Typical cost What it includes
Studio / share-house room $450 – $950 2 movers, one truck, hourly
1-bedroom apartment $650 – $1,500 2 movers, pad-wrapping, hourly or flat
2-bedroom condo or apartment $1,400 – $2,800 3 movers, one truck, COI if the building needs it
3-bedroom share house $2,600 – $4,500 3–4 movers, turnover-weekend scheduling

What Changes the Number

  • Floor and stairs: a walk-up or a third-floor village apartment adds carry time over a ground-floor unit.
  • Building rules: condos and co-ops that require a Certificate of Insurance are handled by our COI desk before move day.
  • Season and timing: a Memorial-Day or Labor-Day changeover weekend is the busiest, most contested window; midweek or off-season is cheaper.
  • Packing: a fully boxed apartment moves fast; if you want us to pack, that is added labor and materials.

For seasonal share houses, the trick is the calendar more than the cost — book the turnover early, because changeover weekends fill first. The federal protection baselines still apply here: released value is included at $0.60 per pound per article, and full-value protection runs roughly 1–3% of declared value if you want replacement-cost coverage on the whole load.
